Principles of Reiki Healing
Kate Williams, Master Reiki Healer

I first came to experience Reiki 4 years ago, when my   daughter Manon was being treated for Leukaemia.   She was just 4 years   old at the time.   During that time she was on a very intense chemotherapy treatment plan, and was taking between 15-20 tablets daily.     Chemotherapy was also adminitered via a portacath in her chest.     She was also having steroid injections in the legs   and   having regular lumber punctures ( where bone marrow   is taken from the spine).       When having chemo her blood also suffered and she had regular blood and platelet transfusions.   For obvious reasons she was very tired and slept for days without properly waking.   Also as anyone knows who has experienced the side effects of chemo, she lost a lot of weight, her hair and was very depressed.   As her mother I was very keen to try and help her in any way I could, and was continually looking for ways to aid her wellbeing.   Among the many things I tried was Reiki.   I was told how it could aid her treatment and help her to deal with the pain and constant chemo she was receiving.   I was, I admit sceptical to begin with but felt we had nothing to lose by trying.   After her first session I immediately noticed how much more energy she had and how alert she was.   What followed was sessions every day for a week until Manon asked if I was able to give her Reiki myself.   I set about finding a Master Teacher and was duly taught.   I gave Manon Reiki every day and I know that it helped her to get better.   During her treatment she was able to continue to eat without having to resort to being fed via a tube, unlike most of the children in hospital.   She was only twice unable to have chemo on the given day it was due, whereas other children would sometimes have to wait two weeks or more before their blood count was up.   Also during that time she found an inner strength to fight her illness and was an inspiration to other children who were finding it hard to deal with.   All in all she turned out to be one of the hospital's successes.   Manon has now been in remission from cancer for 2 years and continues to get stronger every day.   I still give Manon Reiki, not everyday but enough to keep her energy levels up and stagnant 'chi' away.

I have been giving Reiki to clients with all sorts of problems.   I treat a lot of people who have cancer, and they find Reiki helps in dealing with the many side effects of the chemo, that they receive as well as the emotional stress of having cancer.   Very often when giving Reiki to a person with cancer, I too experience the side effects of them having had chemo.   I can feel nauseous, have pins and needles and on the odd occasion I have had to leave the room to be sick.   I must stress that any physical problem or ailment I pick up from the client only lasts for the duration of the treatment.   As soon as it is over I feel fine again, also if treating the same client over a period of time, as they are healed and they feel less discomfort, so do I.   I give Reiki to people with M.S. (Multiple Sclerosis) and they have reported more feeling in their legs and less numbness.   Diabetics as well have had to decrease the amount of insulin needed as they have had Reiki.   Emotional issues are treated very well and invariably after a treatment the client can see things more clearly.   Obviously you don't have to be feeling ill or out of sorts to enjoy the benefits of having a Reiki treatment.   I have lots of clients that incorporate a healing session, as part of their lifestyle.   It is widely accepted these days that you can have alternative therapy without appearing odd!
