Sian Cothi visits Wigs & Co for Bro

On Wednesday the 24th, Wigs & Co saw the arrival of Sian Cothi, and her associates to film us for the series Bro. Bro is about towns all over Wales who have that something different. We were lucky to be asked and are extremely grateful to be able to showcase exactly what Wigs & Co is all about. A great time was had by all with lots of laughter and fun for Sian who got to try on various wigs. Manon and Muriel were the interviewees and all the takes which were not scripted. Instead it was thought to go with the conversation flowing adlib instead, making for a more natural interview. Keep a look out for the programme featuring Lampeter, which is due to be televised sometime in May this year. We will have definate dates nearer the time.

Brand new collection of wigs and toupees

Apologies for being so long since I last wrote in the blog. It has been absolutely manic in the salon. We were inundated with customers leading up to Christmas. This was despite the bad weather. The start of 2010 has also been very busy, with me having to work late in the evenings amd weekends too. January and February saw lots of groups coming to the salon to learn all about the different types of wigs and what we do.

A wig that I designed has now been manufactured and is flying out of the salon. So when time becomes available I will be looking to design some more units, based on what you the client have requested.

We have also taken delivery of a collection of human hair lace wigs. These units are of supreme qualiy and are ideal for those who have total hair loss. Prices for these units are from £480.00 to £550.00. This include styling and cutting of the unit and full starter pack of shampoo, conditioner, foam head, brush, shine spray and tape. For this type of wig expect to pay up to a £1,000.00 elsewhere. After nearly 2 years of sourcing, we have managed to find a factory that makes these wigs ethically and to an A1 standard. Thus cutting out the middle man, meaning we are then able to pass on these savings to you.

Also after plenty of requests we are now stocking a large range of toupees for men. These are available in synthetic and human hair and are avalable in all price ranges. These units are inclusive again of full starter packs and cutting and styling of the unit to suit.

Wigs & Co are wearing it pink on October 30th, in aid of breast cancer. We are having a tea party to help raise funds for this worthwhile cause. From 10am to 2pm, everyone is welcome. Wear pink and donate £2.00. You don't have to wear the pink wig or pink boa, as we will be providing stickers and pink ribbons to show your support. There will be a raffle and we will be showcasing our new range of mastectomy bras and wigs. Have a free bra fitting or make an appointment to try any of our mastectomy bras and wigs in private. SALON INTERNATIONAL, EXCEL, DOCKLANDS, LONDON, OCTOBER 17th - 19th

Apologies for not updating the blog. I know it has been far too long. Due to increased clientele and demand for our quality wigs. Time has been at a premium. This is just a quick note to say that Wigs & Co are off to Salon International on a mammoth buying trip. At Salon International we will be seeing wig suppliers from all over the world. On our wish list is the new synthetic wigs that you can style like your own hair. Be it blow drying or straightening. We will be looking for more products to help deal with hair loss for those of you not quite needing to go down the wig route just yet. For our established clientele we will be looking for new look wigs tailored to their individual needs. We have been going to Salon International for a few years and it is still the best hair and wig show by far. With new looks and styles to suit everyone. We have increased our budget to provide even a bigger range of wigs for you our clients. Please note that our website needs updating and moving forward with our new ranges. Super Million Hair going from strength to strength !!!

Since our launch of Super Million Hair we have been inundated with orders. It is now the most requested product on our online shop. With orders being placed from America and the United Arab Emirates. Clients are amazed at how it covers patches of hair loss and how easy it is to use. Ideal for men and women. Most of our clients are working professionals where appearance is everything. Using Super Million Hair certainly improves their confidence and as one client said, he felt much more confident when addressing an audience during meetings.

It consists of tiny particles of chopped synthetic hair that is applied by the means of a shaker. It adheres to the thinning hair by means of static and appears thicker. New wigs and extensions in time for christmas

We are soon to be taking delivery of brand new arrivals in the wigs and hair extension market. Having just been to Salon International as guests of Martina, Brand Gisela wigs. We were able to see new wigs just released. and put in advance orders. Lots of new hair pieces incorporating ringlets were also available in time for the Christmas season. The article explains why I started the business and gives an update on Manon after her treatment for Leukaemia. It is a great article and raises the profile for us and will reach out to more people who are looking for wigs and mastectomy bras.

See Wigs & Co at Theatr Felinfach November 7th

Theatr Felinfach is hosting a charity fashion show November 7th in aid of Llangeitho school. We have been asked to provide wigs for the models on the night. The models on the evening will be children and adults. So we will be showcasing bandana wigs for the children. For the ladies there will be wigs in all styles and colours as well as toppers and hairpieces. Fashion will be provided by Ji-binc, Aberaeron. Tickets are £8.00 and doors open for 7.30 pm. We will also have a stand in the foyer where you will be able to buy children's accessories and jewellery. A small selection of hairpieces and toppers will also be available. Any bookings made for wig fitting on the night and for the following two weeks there will be a 10% discount on purchases bought at the salon.

Designer Wedding Dresses for sale

A slight deviation to the selling of wigs, we have come to purchase a huge stock of wedding dresses etc. There are 40 wedding dresses in various sizes and styles. No two dresses are the same and come in white, ivory and cream. They are designer samples and so cannot be re-ordered in other sizes. They range from size 8 to 20 and are in many different styles. There are straight dresses, some with detachable cathedral trains, a line dresses with intricate bead-work and lacing. Lovely shift and mid length dresses, ideal for second or registry office weddings. All these dresses are available at a fraction of the cost compared to buying from a bridal studio. For example dresses retailing at £1800 are for sale for £495.00. There are also 60 -80 bridesmaid dresses from toddler to adult. A large selection of shoes, veils and tiaras. Pembs show, a great success for Wigs & Co

We had a really successful 3 day show at the Pembrokeshire county show. The horrendous weather didn't dampen our spirit , nor the hundreds of people who came to our stand. People of all ages enjoyed trying on our wigs and hair toppers. The best sellers of the show were the hair toppers , banded wigs and the posh bobs. Despite taking a large stock of hair toppers we did run out of them and some of the more glamourous wigs. Many of you made bookings for wigs so as to make use of the 10% voucher given out during the show. Lots of new contacts were also made for us to appear at charity galas, fashion shows and beauty conventions. We enjoyed meeting you all and hoped that you enjoyed all the wonderful wigs we had on show.

See us at Pembrokeshire County Show 19th -21st August 2008

For the first time we will be exhibiting at Pembs show. This 3 day show attracted over 97,000 people last year and is one of the largest County shows in Wales. Find us in the Prendergast arena, stand 66. As well as wigs there will be beautiful lingerie in all sizes, hairpieces which you can try on, hair extensions and lots of hair accessories for children and adults alike. We will be trading for the first time at Cardigan Show. Wednesday July 30th 2008. At the show we will be taking lots of wigs, hairpieces, lingerie and jewellery so as to have something for everyone. Special show offers include Chill paste RRP £8.99 (SHOW SPECIAL £5.99). Beautiful and colourful bandanas usual price £69.00 (SHOW SPECIAL £49.00). We will be exhibiting at Bont fashion show on Saturday March 15th 2008. Pafiliwnbont will be holding their first fashion show in aid of Breast Cancer Research UK. Doors open at 5pm so that everyone can have a chance to look around the fashion and beauty stands. The fashion show starts at 7pm till 8.30 pm with a half hour interval for refreshments and raffle. We at Wigs & Co have donated a £50.00 pound voucher for this very worthy cause. Hopefully the winner of the voucher will be there on the night and will be able to spend their voucher at the Wigs & Co stand. Come along to our stand where we will be displaying lingerie and nightwear as well as a large selection of hair pieces and clip in extensions. There will be hair pieces in all colours and styles with a small selection of exclusive wedding hair up-dos.

Also available to buy on the night will be Peruvian jewellery by skilled artisans . From necklaces to rings in Alpaca Silver and natural materials. Female Pattern Baldness (Androgenetic alopecia)

Lately I have been seeing a lot of clients with female pattern baldness. It is unbelieveably common and not just in ladies of a certain age. Women with hair losss invariably think that they are an isolated case and do not realise that women can suffer from baldness as well as men. Female pattern baldness may begin as early as puberty. In these cases it is usually a sign of hormone imbalance. Such as excess facial hair or body hair. Hormonal changes are a common cause of female hair loss. Hair loss can also occur after pregnancy. It may also follow any sudden physical or psychological stress to the body. These types of hair loss are called Telogen Effluvium and are usually temporary. It is important to remember that this hair loss may be delayed by up to three months following these changes and may need up to eight months for regrowth to be fully achieved.
The most common type of hair loss seen in women is androgenetic alopecia, it is predominantly over the top and front of the head. It affects approximately one-third of all women but is most commonly seen after the menopause.

Normal hair shedding is approximately 100- 150 hairs per day . A lower number of hairs would apply to those whose hair is already thin. In female pattern hair loss , when the affected hair is shed, the root grows a hair in its place that is shorter. Eventually it becomes invisible looking (peach fuzz). Genetically, hair loss can come from either parent's side of the family. Thankfully there are ways in which to cover up female baldness . If the hair loss is mainly on the top and front , a hair topper is used to great effect. It covers the top of the head and is attached by means of clips to the hair underneath. It is then combed to blend in with the clients hair. This is a very comfortable piece and very realistic. If the hair loss is more than a wig is used . Depending on the severity of hair loss most clients can get away with using a machine wefted wig. These again are very comfortable and extremely realistic looking. For youngsters clip in hair extensions add thickness and length. If you feel you are suffering from female baldness why not make an appointment for advice and to try on a variety of hair additions.

Chocolate Fountain Sensation Day: October 4th 2007 from 11 am onwards

Lots has been happening since my last blog. We did an exhibition at Llanelli which yielded lots of contacts and opened new avenues in providing wigs to lots of different people. At the exhibition, breast cancer care were there and we hope to work alongside them in providing mastectomy bras for their clients. We also had a lot of interest from modelling agency's who plan to use our wigs on their models and female body builders'. So it just go's to show wigs aren't just for people who have experienced hair loss!. We continually get new wigs in stock and now with the Autumn here we now have a large range of scarves for ladies and children.

Our last chocolate evening was a great success and everyone had a great time. It was a very informal evening where adults and children indulged in chocolate covered marshmallows and strawberries. On the evening ladies got to try out our wigs, switchtails and clip in hair extensions as well as being able to purchase jewellery and children's gifts.
So on October 4th (Thursday) 11 am the chocolate fountain will be out again! We decided to run this from 11 am so as locals can call in their lunch hour. It will run till about 8 pm in the evening so as to allow everyone to sample the chocolate covered goodies. With Halloween just around the corner we also have in stock diamond covered black cat ears and collars and a selection of good quality fancy dress wigs from £10.00 to £30.00. Christmas too, dare I say is just 13 weeks away. for stocking fillers we have children's gifts from 50p upwards and ladies scarves and jewellery from £3.95 upwards. Underwear sets from a very reasonable £21.00 and camisole sets £15.00. For those that can,t decide what to give we have gift vouchers that can be used against any purchases or salon service.

Wigs from New Manufacturers

Here at Wigs & Co we have taken the decision to incorporate even more suppliers of quality wigs. As well as old favorite's such as Henry Margu and Hair World, we have wigs from Noriko, Rene of Paris and Amore and our own collections specially made for Wigs & Co. Recently we have had a lot of interest in bandannas. Many boys who are undergoing chemotherapy lose their hair and are quite happy to wear baseball caps . The film the Pirates of the Caribbean has seen a great interest in pirate themed bandannas. So for that reason we have supplies of skull and crossbones , fire and skulls, paisley and camouflage bandannas especially for the boys. Also badges to adorn the bandanna to give it that cool look that boys so want! The website is continually growing and we are trying to incorporate as much information as possible. Look out in the near future for our tips on how to look good whilst undergoing chemotherapy. Manon.s Wish. A fitting end to a very long illness.

For those of you who don't know me and my family personally. My daughter Manon was diagnosed with A.L.L. (Leukaemia, cancer of the blood). She was three weeks short of her 4th birthday when we were told she had Leukaemia. What followed was two and half years on chemotherapy. The first year of very intense chemo followed by maintainance chemo. During that time she was fitted with a port in her chest from which the drugs were fed into. She also had to take upto 15 tablets a day as well as steroids in the legs as part of her treatment. As anyone who has had treatment for cancer will know the side effects can be extreme. From mouth ulcers, aches and pains to sleeping for hours on end. Thankfully she has completed her treatment and has been in remission for nearly 2 years. The Round Table Foundation then granted Manon a wish. Please read on to find out what her wish was.

Last week Manon finally realised her dream to swim with the dolphins. She had waited nearly 2 years for her wish to come true. We all went as a family to the North of Ternerife and her wish took place at Loro Parque, Puerto La Cruz . We arrived at 10 am where we were met by the parks P.A. Mareika. She took us to meet the dolphin trainers and dolphins. In the pool there was a pod of 6 dolphins that she was able to swim with. One of the trainers went in the water with her where she was able to swim alongside the dolphins and hitch a ride on one of them. The look on her face was fantastic. So as not to feel left out Manon's brother Trystan was able to take part in the dolphin show and have a ride in the boat where one of the dolphins pulled it along whilst the others jumped over the boat. All in all it was a lovely holiday and the fitting end to Manon's illness.

At our last meeting I carried out a number of beauty therapies for the mums and dads of kids that have had or are currently going through chemotherapy. It is a chance to catch up with what has been going on since our last meeting and also very beneficial for new parents of children newly diagnosed with cancer. Our meetings are very informal and group based. One of my popular therapies is the bio de-tox spa which releases toxins through the feet. It is very similar to a foot spa. Depending on how toxic your body is when having the treatment the colour of the water changes from light brown to muddy brown and sometimes has fatty deposits floating on top. Parents of children newly diagnosesd are the ones whose water is the darkest. As time goes on and their child gets through the treatment the water in the bio de-tox spa gets lighter. Also very enjoyable is the hand and foot wax., which is like a mini sauna and very beneficial if you suffer from bad circulation , athritis or numbness.
